I just love to send greeting cards, almost as much as I like getting them. Coming home from a hard day’s work and picking up the mail to find a card from someone just makes the day a little more special. A great person in my life sends cards every now and then because she says that it’s good to get something in the mail that is not a bill.

How right she is!

I’m pretty much known for sending outrageously funny cards. Cards that are insultingly funny are sent for birthdays, holidays, even situations that probably are too serious for a funny card. I mean, sympathy cards are great, but getting a card that says something like “gone, forgotten, and happy about it” is a great sentiment if the person that passed was not really liked. Laughter really is the best medicine.

Spending hours in a card shop reading cards is therapeutic. I’m the person laughing out loud at funny cards. I buy them even if no situation exists to send the card just yet. Something will come up.

Sending greeting cards in an electronic age is special. Buying the perfect card for someone you are thinking about, signing your name and maybe including a short note, addressing the envelope, and finding a stamp, (which you probably have to search for since you don’t write letters anymore and bills are paid online), and dropping the card in a mail slot takes time and effort. But it is sort of ritualistic, so the person receiving the card should be really appreciative.

Can you imagine the person opening the card and getting a laugh or smiling at the sentiment of the card? It should put a smile on your face because you helped brighten someone’s day.

Send greeting cards to thank people for gifts, or for just doing something really nice. Send greeting cards to tell someone you love them, or to tell them to flake-off. Send greeting cards to friends to let them know that you are thinking about them and just haven’t found the time to call. Send greeting cards because your Momma told you that it is what people who live in a genteel world do.

Cards I receive and love go in my memory box so I can read them again, especially a child’s card saying I love you.
